Love of Reading

At Eyke C of E Primary we love reading. It isn't just an important life skill - it's also a way to relax, a way to escape to other worlds, have a cosy time with someone at home and learn new things.

Look at our beautiful new library! It has been completely refurbished over the summer funded by grants from St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich Diocesan MAT, Suffolk County Council and our own school community with money raised by our PTA, ACES. Thank you to everyone for your support - we now love reading even more!

During their time at Eyke, we would love everyone to discover the joy of reading. These are some of the ways we are developing a love of reading:

  • KS1 and KS2 Parent Reading Afternoons
  • Outdoor reading opportunities
  • Library time each week with the class teacher
  • Class reader
  • Literacy Tree for guided reading
  • Literacy Tree for teaching from a quality text for writing
  • Phonics workshops for parents
  • Reading competitions across curriculum
  • Targeted phonics homework
  • Phonics catch up groups
  • Training/support for reading helpers and LSAs
  • Books are displayed in classrooms across the curriculum
  • Termly book lists sent home to parents
  • We are now making improvements to the school library!
